How did he keeping missing Ivy? They'd been through so much in high school, but after Simon moved in with Wren it as if he'd dropped off the face of the earth. Sure, there were his studies at the university and all that came with the first semester. And he should have felt so grownup by now, but it hadn't worked out that way.
"Wren and I aren't together anymore." He told Ivy over hot cocoa at the Campus Coffee Shop.
Actually, they'd spent about a month together and she moved out. He just hadn't mentioned it to anyone, until now.
"What?" She looked at him shocked. Of course, she had more shocking news, about the baby. He couldn't help but want to stare at her stomach, but there was no baby bump just yet.
"Oh, you know, she found some Swedish girl to hangout with," He shrugged. "They're together now."
He tried not to look so defeated about it. After all, he'd always worried he would be the one to find someone else, especially when Wren said she'd always had the biggest crush on him while in high school.
"That's too bad," Ivy looked sad about the news. "Are you really OK?"
Simon only nodded and took a sip of cocoa. That's when she said she'd missed hanging out with him. Simon almost spewed the hot drink but he let out a cough instead. Although, it didn't stop Ivy's confession.
"I just wonder how it would be, if..if I would have stayed with you instead of going to Will." She nursed her bottom lip. Finally, she admitted some of her happiest times in high school were with him. "You were so serious about your education." She sighed. "I didn't want to bring you down."
"How could you have ever brought me down?" He looked at her as of she'd been his best friend, after all. Yet, it had been cut short. She'd been smitten by someone he couldn't even remember the name of, and then she fell so hard for Will. Only that hadn't lasted, either.
"I just dunno what I'm doing with my life right now," Her voice cracked as if she didn't know if she was ready to be a mother. "Things happened so fast with Brian. I dunno what I was thinking."
"But-"
"I'm afraid," Ivy blurted, but then remained straight lipped. "How..how can we make it? On our own."
It didn't seem to matter if she was still at home at her mother's. This was not where she wanted to be for the rest of her life.
"How? How can I help?" Simon found himself asking. He'd do anything for Ivy.
Interesting! Love the collage too!
