No place like home

Sometimes, Jools forgot about his problems. It was easy to do when he was with Evan. Also, Jools worked at the Uni now. He'd be starting a class or two this summer. Evan got on at Adult services at the library because of his love of crafts and his degree in library science.

Jools knew these were opportunities to see through. Although, he couldn't even imagine how either of them actually got there. It was happiness and a new chapter in each of their lives. Still, in the deepest of night, Jools would wake up in a cold sweat, thinking about his parents.

He wondered how they really were. Were they angry all the time? Was it all his fault? Had his father's blood pressure gone up? Was his mother miserable? Maybe neither talked to each other. Maybe they'd decided this was what America did to their son. He knew he wasn't the boy they knew.

Even so, he'd manned up. He was almost on his own. But it was a comfort to have Evan to lean on. And he wouldn't let himself feel completely low. There was a reason to go on. Maybe someday, his parents would change their mind about him.
