just around the corner
Liam took another peek around the corner in the hallway of his apartment building. He needed to be sure it wasn't Lizzy's brother moving in. He breathed easy then when he saw the redhead with the Asian guy.
"Who is it?" Lizzy whispered in his ear from behind as she squished into him.
"Nobody we know," he shrugged. but he noticed the guy saw him and smiled.
Liam grabbed Lizzy's hand, but before they could go into their apartment, the guy said, "I know you."
Liam turned to him with a squint. He didn't think so.
The guy was pointing to Lizzy.
"We were in drama 101." His smile was definitely meant for movies.
Liam remained even lipped and looked over at Lizzy who nodded with a shy smile.
"We're neighbors," He beamed, introducing himself and his new wife, Gabby.
Liam felt a little out of place or wanted to ask, "People still do that?" He didn't know anyone married, but then he remembered Joon and Natalie got married before they had the baby. He guessed they might be expecting too.
Before he knew it, Lizzy invited them in and got the kettle on for hot chocolate. She laid out a sleeve of chocolate mint cookies.
Lizzy said she hadn't seen Jared in quite a while, but he said he was still taking classes. Gabby was at the University too, but she was Undeclared.
Liam hugged himself and let them do the talking.
Jared and Gabby got married on Halloween.
"Who knew, it would take so long to find a place," Gabby said she knew Jared's brother was ready for them to leave and she was so happy not to be around a baby.
Liam thought they were selfish. Did they really know what it was like to have their own apartment?
Jared mentioned they needed furniture. They didn't even have a bed.
"Where did you find your stuff?" Jared asked.
"Good Will." Liam looked at him blankly, hoping they weren't planning to stay the night.
"The University has a thrift place. You can find beds there." Lizzy told them.
Jared nodded, but looked at Gabby as if he counted on her to get this done. She was already on her phone picking out a bed. It could be delivered by tomorrow.
Jared smiled as if he really didn't have to do anything in this relationship but to be there for his wife.
