it's going around

It was snowing again. Ste wasn't sure to get to baking or go back to bed. He really couldn't see many out on this cold morning, but Valentina was already there and even Robby was with her as if they were ready for Saturday morning customers.

Still, he felt he was going through the motions. He wasn't feeling all that well. He couldn't say it was a sore throat, but maybe a stomach ache.

"Why don't you get upstairs and rest," Valentina told him she and Robby would take care of everything here. She'd already started the coffee and marked down the prices of the bread and cookies that were leftover from yesterday.

Ste clenched his teeth. He hoped he could make it upstairs before he shit himself. Thankfully, Amira wasn't here to see him this way. In fact, he didn't even want Valentina and Robby to see him like this.

He gave them a nod and headed upstairs.

Suddenly, he was overwhelmed by how he missed home. He didn't know why he was thinking this way. He felt so alone. At the same time, he was glad he was. Luckily, he got to the bathroom in time.

Why did he have to feel so miserable? He had a cough and a bit achy.  Ste crawled back in bed, hoping he wouldn't get anyone sick.

He was always careful in the kitchen. The bread that rose overnight was made when he was OK. He shut his eyes tight and hoped this would pass.

When he awoke he smelled the odor of disinfectant. Amira was here. She'd washed his clothes and  cleaned his place up.

"I told you, you should have gotten your flu shot." She looked at him as if she was the only mother he would ever need. She had bottles of water and other fluids waiting for him. Even hot broth.

"Why are you here?" He winced with a swelled frown.

"You don't even need to know the answer," she took his temperature. "If you aren't better by the hour, I'm taking you to urgent care."

Ste sighed. It was true, no one could take care of him like Amira. This girl was definitely a keeper.
