one day at a time

"I wonder just how awful she was," Brian said when Bom told him what her boss told her during the interview.

"What?" Bom looked a little lost in the kitchen trying to chop onions and peppers while Keanu was at her feet. He was already calling her Bommy.

Brian bent down and touched the top of his sweet head and said, "Oh, it's nothing Bommy." He couldn't help but hold in a soft laugh.

Yes, he'd been numb the last week or so with his fiasco with Ivy, but it felt like home, here with Bom and Keanu.

"I just..." She started to say but then maybe she was dreaming and she put the veg in the sizzling pan.

"Just what?" He stood up and looked at the back of her long neck, wanting to reach out and touch her but he didn't.

"You know, it all works out," She said she was certain she could work with Ivy's mother. After all, she'd waited tables at the campus coffee shop and she'd done scads of jobs growing up, and there was that very long process with test-taking when she'd hoped for a government job that didn't pan out.

"You'll figure it out."

Still, he hoped this wasn't all too much for her. He really hoped February would bring good fortune.
