everywhere I go

Iona listened to her brother talk of Micah's troubles. It didn't sound like the guy she knew. Of course, she'd always thought of Micah as sensitive, perhaps delicate. While she, on the other hand, was blunt and always spoke the truth, even if it were harsh.

"But, he likes you," Diago said. "I can tell."

Iona could barely breathe for laughter. "Are you kidding me?" She was doing her best to stay out of his way.

"Yeah, he thinks you hate him, or something," her brother shrugged as if he'd said what he intended and would leave it at that. He was busy cleaning the kitchen.

Iona sighed, not sure what to make of this news. "What am I supposed to do?" She finally asked.

"Tell him, you don't hate him, for starters," Diago shrugged once more as he started to scrub on another pan while she dried dishes.

Honestly, Iona was too tired to notice. She'd always imagined Micah made of money from a rich family, but her brother told her that Micah was on the outs with his adopted family. Evidently, he hadn't turned out the way they wanted him too. He'd dropped out of the University and they found him rather lazy.

Perhaps she and Micah were more alike than Iona knew. But she couldn't actually see him wanting to have much to do with a girl like her. She was ordinary and doing good to be a cashier at a grocery store. And then there was that social distancing thing to worry about these days.

Diago told her about Micah's ex. "Sure, I remember her," Iona nodded, thinking of Sally as a party girl. Of course, she doubted Sally would remember her. She was also a friend of Char's.

"We'd like to do more with Sally, but you know, Micah would be bitter about it. Of course, we can't really see anybody these days." Diago told her there would be a day when they would all have a summer party of some sort.

Iona found herself smiling again, but she shook her head, no. No way could she and Micah ever be a couple. She was definitely not his type.
