Adulting is hard

"I just don't think Jools was telling me, everything," Valentina said to Matty on the way to the library. "I'd like to have this big dinner with Dan and him and maybe even with Dan's new roommate and who ever Jools is with, too."

"It could happen," Matty doubted it happened anytime soon, maybe by summer. Still, he knew family was important to her.

It wasn't long until they found a space to study. Although, he knew she would rather be browsing new graphic novels and fun activities in the young adult area. She always signed up for some DIY to take home. But she was on a schedule so there was silence and both got to work with their assignments.

"He's here," she looked at Matty.

"Who?" Matty winced. His concentration was sinking low. Algebra was never his forte and yet he always passed.

"Jools," She said and went to get him at the circulation desk. He seemed to be waiting for someone while he filled out an application form.

Matty followed.

"What are you doing here?" Val asked.

"My library card expired and I'm trying to help someone get a library card," Jools said. Of course, this certain someone could have been a boy or a girl lost in a candy store. "That's my roommate, Mick."

Naturally, Mick was happy to get the card. He looked at it as if it would be his favorite credit card.

"I want to do self-checkout," Mick said. He didn't even acknowledge Val nor Matty.

"You can try," Jools told him, but he said he didn't think it would work until his second visit to the library.

"It should work." Val clarified.

"Let's see if he can remember his pin number," Jools shrugged as if Mick might not be all there.

Mick came back, practically peeved.

"Where's your card?" Jools then asked. It was still at the self-checkout station.

Valentina looked at Matty as if she wasn't so sure about Jools' choices lately. He went to get the card for Mick.

Before they knew it, Mick left to find another book. He'd never read THE OUTSIDERS. He wondered if there was a graphic novel on that book.

"You think you guys would want to come over for dinner?" Valentina asked.

"Oh, he's pretty excited about getting stuff at the library," Jools sounded that was enough excitement for the day.

"Does he go to the University?" Matty couldn't help but ask.

"Nope," Jools said he was very good with cars. "He works for his uncle at his auto repair shop."

Matty guessed Mick was just one of kind.

When he came back with a book that was not THE OUTSIDERS, Jools asked if he'd like to have dinner at Valentina's. Of course, he said sure yet he had no idea who was Valentina.

  2. Interesting story line. There are so many numbers to remember these days. I keep a list just in case I need to refer to it. :)

  3. Now we get to know a bit about Mick, Jools' roommate. Looking forward to Jools and Mick having dinner at Valentina's place.

    1. Actually, this was from a scene at the library a couple of weeks ago. It was interesting to watch because one had to keep up with this person who did have a load of books and a new card that couldn't be found. Later we made a phone call. We'd found the card not far from the self-checkout.

So I am glad it happened. It gave me inspiration.

  8. Mick is already living up to his sketchy image! Then again, maybe it's all a ruse and he'll turn out to be wonderful. Anyway, nice touch about the library card. I love that you were inspired by a real-life library incident!
