Rosie had new shoes and nowhere to wear them. It felt like the story of her life these days. If she wasn't trying to get the course work done it was talking to teachers on zoom, and of course babysitting her nieces.
The thrill of the week was a trip to the library, usually to pick up a take-home craft for the nieces or a Young Adult DIY. She did plan those trips around Chance's schedule. She was always happy to see him and usually brought him some sort of goodie.
Still, it was very low key and she couldn't stay long, and she definitely wouldn't wear the new shoes out into the snow. She hated to admit to Chance that she played a lot of dress-up with the girls, but she knew that he knew because when he came over the girls wanted to dress him up too. They liked to paint his nails or watch her paint his nails, and some of the time she would see he was still wearing that black and silver nail polish at work, too.
It made her smile. And even better when she knew he was happy to see her even with his mask on.
"Poppy and Jory broke up," he said. Suddenly, it felt like an illness was going around to Rosie who hoped that didn't happen to them. But then again, the way he talked, it was like they were talking about celebrities.
"Oh, what happened?" Rosie wanted to know.
"Um, his sister said she wanted to break up," Chance told her as he was trying to look busy with the cart of DVDs he was shelving.
"What did he do?" Rosie was a little alarmed wondering what kind of person was Jory.
"Apparently, nothing."
"Did she cheat on him?" Rosie's eyes just got bigger, thinking about the whole ordeal. She remembered when Val broke up with Ollie. She never saw that coming. She winced thinking it could happen to her and Chance too.
"Maybe," Chance shrugged. "I dunno."
About then, the very tall Brick cut in to their conversation.
I have new clothes and nowhere to go! Good :-D
ReplyDeletethe public spaces are un-safe until pandemic over
ReplyDeleteOver the weekend the Gov. said we are now to lift restrictions. But for the most part only few come to the library where I work. Limited time to browse and use the computer lab. Still we mask up and are always sanitizing.

ReplyDeleteDo you work in a library? Hence the love and fondness for writing ... probably :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, I work in the library. I have been writing way before I started at the library. Possibly, because I have always listened to the stories characters have told me..or its theraputic, perhaps. And my spelling still stinks...=) Thanks for your comment.
