It concerns suspicious blessings

It was a close one. Slater and Misty tied the knot two days before baby Scout was born. At least they had Jay and Lindy and Josh (who officiated) and his wife Minnie and of course, Matty and Valentina were there along with Koda and Vanna at the apartment complex where of course, the grilling took place after the ceremony.

Of course, it felt like it might have happened a year ago. First Misty was worried their baby girl was sleeping too much which lasted a good three weeks and then they heard her cry. Such power lungs. Each took turns trying to soothe her. She slept best when she was on somebody's shoulder. Actually, Slater's shoulder.

Naturally, he was a proud papa, but he wasn't sure he had the stamina for it, but he let Misty rest and he held Scout. She watched most of Bridgerton with him. Honestly, she was a night owl. Slater was beginning to think he would never ever sleep through the night again. Seriously, it was the good life and he had so much to be thankful for, but what he'd give for a long hot shower, a bacon cheeseburger from Sonic, and a boatload of onion rings.

Instead, one morning he answered the door and to his surprise, there was Lindy's father, Frank.

"Look, I brought you some venison," he just said.

"Oh," Slater was holding the infant, he looked out to see if there might be an ice chest or something.

"I hear you're a butcher, according to Jay."

"You heard that, did you?" Slater gritted a smile.

"Damn, boy, you're so tall." Frank came in as if he could use a cup of coffee. "You look a hell of a lot like somebody I ought to know, but I don't know who."

Slater only nodded and got him a cup of coffee. Frank noticed Scout fast asleep.

"What's that you got there?" He wanted to know.

"This is our new baby," Slater managed to show the old man the bundle of joy with thick black hair. Before Slater knew it Frank's rough hands took the sleeping little one.

"What a babe," Frank smiled. "Pretty too."

"I'm sure she takes after Misty," Slater nodded.

"Oh, she's a daddy's girl, through and through." Frank just smiled. "Firstborn?"

Slater nodded.

"I don't think Lindy looked a thing like me," he shook his head. "I wonder why?"

"Oh, who really knows about these things," Slater felt a tickle of a laugh in his throat as the baby awoke. Naturally, her little fingers jumped as she looked startled at the man's scared face. But she didn't cry which shocked Slater. It was as if she knew exactly who this Frank was and she didn't make a peep but studied him as if he was the real deal.

  7. Slater, Misty, and Scout make such a cute family! I enjoyed reading about their first days, even Slater's longing for a shower and Sonic. But then Frank showed up and the energy changed. It was creepy the way he grabbed the baby and then said that his own Lindy never looked like him. No wonder Lindy has issues . . . I'm interested to see where this one goes.

  11. Whew, getting married just in time. Close call for sure. Though, nowdays no one seems to care. And sometimes they don't even bother with getting married. Or if they do it's much later. YOu probably need to work a dog into the story. It seems the order is to live together, then buy a house together, then have a dog, then have a child, and then think about marriage. So, on 2nd thought your story might have passed the dog stage, lol. I like the intrigue of opening the door and Frank is just there....un-announced, and un-invited.

  14. Ooh fun. A little sped up timeline here which is neat to see the passage of time. I like how much they grill. :)

A burger from Sonic... mmm :)

A couple people in the collage look familiar. The one in the upper right looks like one of the guys from Squid Game- I could be wrong though. and is that Danny Trejo also? Probably not, but kinda looks like it.
