To have what you have never had, you have to do what you have never done.

 

Boone really hadn't planned on it, but he'd spent the whole weekend with Phil. It was like being in middle school, all over again and they'd played video games the entire time.

He couldn't do this stuff at the dorm. He didn't like his roommate anyway. Really, it was a big snoozefest and this thing with his brother and his father was like taking on a class project he always had to write about, especially when his adopted mom wanted to know all. Of course, this really was the first time Oakley had been friendly with him. She'd snubbed him from the get go, but Boone had always been friendly, and he picked up the call meant for Oakley from Phil (because she wouldn't answer it and being her moody self at home) and well, it was perfect timing.

"I was always that kid who became friends with the kid that no one liked in class," Boone admitted to Phil, "But I really can't say that about Oakley." He didn't think she really liked him or Phil. "I'm not saying she's a villain, but she's got that potential to cause a problem."

Of course, Phil didn't know. He did say he was scared of her. Boone agreed. He thought she was scary too. "Maybe she's got something nobody has discovered yet." But he didn't go into detail about how she liked paganism, witchcraft, and in search for her own personal coven. She swore she was no more than a kitchen witch. What if she dabbled in the dark arts? Seriously, he didn't trust her.

"I did try," Phil was pretty shy. "I mean, I'm not one to ..."

"Even date. You've never been on a date," Boone laughed about it now, but he hoped he didn't offend him. "You'll probably meet someone before I do." He told Phil. "I'm just a late bloomer. And I'm pretty short."

Sure, he knew a few who thought he was cute. It was like finding his adopted mother all over again. She just found him adorable. Still, he could see why Oakley was mad. They never made over her like that. It didn't help after their parents divorced in high school. Yes, she would be so much better off in Paris at the conservatory, but she didn't make it and her old friend Smed did. Secretly, Boone thought there might have been a thing between them, but that guy lived in Paris now. 

"In another world, it would be great if I could live with my brother and my dad who got a long, and my mom Mara who really knows how to feed a crowd on a budget. Maybe I'll find somebody like that one day." Boone thought maybe they should clean up before he headed back to the dorm.

"That's OK," Phil said. "I'll have something to do after you leave." Phil kept going for another round on the old Mario Brothers video game.

"Now, you're just gonna make me sad," Boone sighed. He knew he wasn't exactly cupid, but maybe he really needed to find someone for Phil, who was not his sister. At least, it would give him something to talk about with Alfie.
