"Hold up, wait a minute," Victoria practically stopped Alfie in his tracks. Granted, she'd been out of the loop long enough, but she was back at the pharmacy while True was at her parents. "What are you telling me?"
First, it was unbelievable how he just made friends so easily with this Phil who was now living in the apartment that Alfie and Poppy used to live in. Second, how had he and Zoey started dating? She shook her head, it just couldn't be possible.
"Well, I dunno." Alfie didn't want to talk about it. "It just did." He tried to explain how he'd bumped in to Zoey here at the drugstore, and it had only been an accident finding Phil.
"Are you paying these people?" She squinted as if maybe Alfie was some kind of psychopath.
"You, really don't know me," Alfie snapped. "Where were you when I needed you?"
She scowled back. "You've never needed me for anything. But you are Steve's best friend."
"We..we almost dated, you know." He smirked.
"You like to believe that," she practically rolled her eyes at him. It was time to walk away, but she couldn't. "All I'm saying, it's just moving too fast."
"What is?" He wanted to know as he got to his terminal to see what he needed to be doing.
"Well, you and the whole Zoey thing. And then... now... you think Phil and your little brother-"
"I didn't say that," Alfie was multi-tasking and typing away.
"Well, I think I need to at least meet this Zoey," Victoria wanted to know just who was he going out with.
"Really?" Alfie looked pleased about that.
"Maybe..maybe we'll all go out soon," Victoria nodded. She was in her white coat and down to business, looking over the shelves of medication, making sure everything was in its place. Yes, it was a good idea to go out with friends. She just hoped Alfie wouldn't go overboard. She definitely didn't want him hung over on their new couch.
Interesting

ReplyDeleteThis is quite the conversation between Victoria and Alfie! Victoria seems well-versed in handling Alfie's orneriness; good for her. The proposed outing with their mutual friends promises to be interesting, especially given the stellar last lines: "Yes, it was a good idea to go out with friends. She just hoped Alfie wouldn't go overboard. She definitely didn't want him hung over on their new couch." You always hit just the right note!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for including my sparkly cactus in the collage! I love how it looks like it's growing out of the bear's head! There's no end to your creativity! 🌵🐻🌵🐻
