It was decided when they found the mattress on sale at Sam's Club that Boone was moving in.
"But... but I should pay you back," Boone didn't think it was fair for Phil to buy the mattress, but he already had his debit card out. It looked to Boone as if it was a big relief to Phil not to be alone. Besides, Phil did have the extra room.
"Oh, don't worry about it," he said as they both got the box situated on a cart to drag to checkout. Of course, they had to stop for an ice cream cone on the way out.
"I better let Alfie know," Boone said. "I think he thinks we have a thing going on."
"A thing?" Phil snarled as if it might be contagious.
"Don't worry. I don't think my sister would make it out that way, but whatever. Who cares." There was ice cream to eat. They would take their time getting to Phil's little SUV. Boone told Phil he'd order the bed frame. "You've done enough."
"Are you looking for a job?" Phil asked next.
"I'll find something," he sighed.
"Have you worked before?" Phil asked.
"Oh, you know, I've chased grocery carts, that kind of thing. Nothing serious."
"Not even fast food?"
"Nope."
"But you should." Phil looked at him blankly.
"Really?" Boone looked at him even more blankly. "I haven't thought of that."
"The worst job I ever had was at MacDonald's," Phil sighed as he ate at the soft serve.
"Seriously?" Boone wondered what that meant.
"It was just, you know..." He shrugged.
"I don't know?" Boone honestly didn't. What had he been missing?
"Oh, just keeping up, and all those freaking old people wanting discounts." He sighed and they went on with the cart toward the car
"It couldn't have been that bad," Boone didn't think, but he licked at the soft serve as if he wished he could have another.
"Cause, you're cute. I'm not that cute." Phil was even-lipped about it, standing there in his neat jeans shorts that hit his knees and a tucked-in classic polo shirt.
"Don't say that, you're adorable," Boone assured him. Phil laughed. Boon laughed. Yeah, it would good to be his roommate. For a moment, Boone hated the fact they might ever be separated if Phil had a girlfriend. Still, he knew he needed to search for one because he knew Phil wouldn't.
Ohhhh, so cute chapter
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your amazing stories, I really love all of these

ReplyDeleteAn interesting conversation.
ReplyDeleteThese guys seem to go well together. Maybe Boon will find something where he can make a little money. Maybe he should apply at the soft serve place. Speaking of... it's 70 here today and may I need ice cream!
ReplyDeleteLove the shades. And the cap (of course)
Temporary services, mainly in fast food chains, are used to count coins. We have to study, qualify and choose a career that we will embrace with passion.
ReplyDeleteAnother good chapter written with this passion that I highlighted.
