It's the 4th

 "Crap!" They'd been laughing so long that Boone forgot all about Phil. Of course, he showed up by three.

They had to practically play hide and seek in Boone's own room. Well, it was probably worth it. He was smiling now and wished he hadn't been so needy. Had Lily seen it that way?

They had a good long talk in bed. Maybe she was beginning to realize he wasn't exactly Romeo, but of course, there were those moments they kissed like it might go somewhere. But he knew Phil would think differently. So they played the quiet game for a while and fell asleep. 

And just when he was trying to sneak out with Lily, who was there to want to know what was up? Phil.

"Oh, we just got here," Boone laughed, but he knew Phil didn't believe him. He told him they'd stayed out all night and he was going to make breakfast. Yes, he did make pancakes and there was enough sausage for everyone even if Lily would not have any.

"We are spending today together," Boone announced at the end of the meal, taking Lily's hand. Yes, they were in yesterday's clothes. If they hurried to the grocery store, they might find matching patriotic tees. "What are you going to do?"

Phil was a bit indifferent like he was trying to figure out an equation of some kind. Boone left it at that. Phil took care of the dishes. 

"Just don't overthink it," Boone said above a breath as they were leaving.  He smiled back at Lily. Yes, it was best not to overthink it.

Of course, Gage had to hurry home with Nora that night. There were things to do with Alec on the fourth. Alfie and Zoey took the original camper while his Dad and Janine went to their camper. 

"It'll take some getting used to," he'd said to Zoey that night. "But I love this camper." She said the bed was amazing and big too.

He smiled at her as if he knew they were on the same page and maybe it was best not to think about Janine and his dad together. But he didn't know what Boone might think.

"Did you know?" He texted the next morning and Boone texted back "Know what?" He said he'd be out at the campground shortly. and about an hour later he was there hand in hand with Lily, already in their swimsuits under matching tops. 

It wasn't long until Oakley and Finn showed up too. He brought beef to grill and they looked as if they had news of some kind with their happy faces.

At this point, Alfie was hoping Oakley would say, "Surprise! We're having a baby!" But no, it was Finn who said they were going to Paris for two weeks the last week in July.

Of course, Alfie mentioned maybe they should go fishing, but his dad said it was just too noisy. It wasn't long until the train of inter-tubing began. Yes, it was going to be a long day and Boone looked as if he was happy as could be.

"Did something happen?" Alfie asked him.

"Do you think something happened?" Boone grinned back. He didn't say much to his mom or dad. It was as if only Lily mattered.

Alfie tilted his head, he hoped his brother knew what he was doing with a girl who was still in high school.
