KC told Harley it was time for her to stop worrying about him. He was fine. He would find somehow to suffice on his own for Thanksgiving. "It's not like I'm going to wander the streets."
Oh, he hoped he hadn't confused her, but they were on the phone a lot lately and he knew it was wrong even if it was just text for the most part. OK, some face time came and went. But he basically just wanted to read her text. Although, he knew she should be with Brick for the holiday.
"But..but I told him I wasn't feeling well," she'd said, making KC even more sad. He didn't want to break them up. They were just friends.
Of course, he told her he'd met someone, like it might have been a done deal. The redhead caught his eye because she did make him think of Harley. Actually, it was someone he'd noticed in the cafeteria. He hadn't even spoken to her and he wasn't. But she was there on Thanksgiving day.
And he got up the courage to sit across from her. Of course, he was certain she was no Harley. Still something about her made him feel at ease. Yes, maybe she could be his Harley. Except, her name was Ruby.
"Ruby," KC smiled as if he would remember. He watched her with her food and for moment it was like seeing Harley. KC stayed mute. He was afraid to say her name, again. He would hate to say, "Oh, Harley..." But he didn't. He was focused on making better choices. He hoped knowing Ruby would be a good thing.
Of course, Junie had a rotten Thanksgiving. She felt so shut off from the world. It was just family and even her stepbrother wasn't there. Naturally, Darry was on her mind. She found out after dinner that Amy got to spend Thanksgiving with Eli.
"How did that happen?" She texted.
"I dunno, I think it's my dad's fault." Amy didn't seem too confident about having a boyfriend. After all, he lived behind them and mowed their lawn on occasion.
"You're so lucky," Junie told her. She had no way of even communicating with Darry. Still, she found her way to the Youth Center even in her puffer jacket since it was getting colder. Of course, the youth center was closed, but then she found him walking across the nearby soccer field. At last, Thanksgiving was worth being thankful for.
Of course, they kept each other warm in the cold. Suddenly, it was like their very own summer. Grins, holding hands, just being together was as if they'd won the lottery. It was a relief to know he was happy to see her too. This time he gave her his phone number. They were certain to be connected now.
Oh harley told Brick she couldn't do Thanksgiving! Wow. And hmm ruby. Where will THIS go?
ReplyDeleteAww Junie had a nice Thanksgiving after all
Ruby is quite an adequate name for a red-head girl. She might even make KC forget about Harley, the other red -head, the girl of his friend Brick.
ReplyDeleteJunie and Darry were finally connected on Thanksgiving; good news.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad that KC met Ruby, even if she is a sort of Harley double. The whole Harley-KC thing was making me nervous! Although Harley seems a bit disappointed . . .
