Honestly, it was always an adventure with Rafe. Secretly, she loved going places with him on his moped. She hoped he didn't notice, but from that randy smile on his face how could he not? Maddie knew he loved being held onto.
So they were off again, finding an easy way to get to a bomb fire on Halloween. Naturally, she was a little shaky these days will so many bad things going on in the world, but she still felt snug being next to Rafe.
"I think you need a milkshake," Rafe told her once they came to a stop.
"A milkshake?" She hoped he didn't want to go back to his place to make one in the blender. She'd had his spaggatti which was no more than ketchup and little parmassian on angle hair. Yeah, he was a very quick cook in the kitchen.
"You're getting wound up," He was always honest.
"Um." She managed. "But it's not about you."
He got off first then helped her off his old moped.
"It's that Junie, isn't it?"
She nodded.
"I don't know," He winced with a smile and a shrug. "I bet he's scared of her."
"What?" She wanted to know what he knew that she didn't know about Daryl.
"Have you ever seen him with a girl before? I bet she started it," he reminded her what a fangirl she'd been with him at the start of summer. "She finally found someone who can appreciate that. Just let it go." He smiled so mischievously and touched her nose.
After the helmets were put away, he put his arm around her and they marched on where everyone else was.
Maddie looked around. Junie was with Daryl. They'd come to the bomb fire too. Maddie kept straight lipped and pulled Rafe along to see what this was about.
"Oh, hi there cousin," Junie smiled and looked up at Daryl's long neck. His auburn hair hung long, but Maddie could spot the love marks from here. Maddie couldn't help but stare.
"Oh, Darry, you know Madz don't you?"
"Madz?" Rafe made a face of disgust.
Daryl nodded.
"Hi, Darry." Maddie made an effort to smile. She guessed she would call him Darry from now on. "Do you guys want to meet up at Village Inn?"
"Village Inn?" Rafe made it sound so disgusting, but she stomped his sneaker and he let out a cough.
"Naw, we're good." Junie came back with a snarl.
"Well, I'm not. We need to talk." Maddie snapped.
Uh oh

Well, if Maddie and Rafe aren't at odds, then I guess someone has to be! It seems that Darry will have to pay for those love bites. I kind of like Maddie's fire, though. It means she's a good match for Rafe. 🔥🔥🔥
