Tryna decipher

Brick wasn't going to say it was the wildest New Year's he ever had, but then he and Harley weren't going to do a lot. Stay in and watch some good old comedies and then KC showed up with Ruby. They were stranded in Denver for a bit but finally made it out for a late holiday.

It was so out of the blue.

"Well, we had nothing better to do," KC said about the matter. It seemed Ruby was from maybe Scotland, or not. Brick never did get a good idea where this redhead was from.

Before Brick could even ask about Ruby's resemblance to someone they both knew while they were at Brick's, KC started in on Brick's hair. "Why are you growing out?"

"I dunno, winter I suppose," he shrugged about the matter. He'd never been questioned about his hair, but then it was Harley's idea, but he wouldn't dare admit it.

"Aren't you in basketball?" KC squinted. He sounded like Brick needed a shaved head to do that kind of sport. "And..and you have the worst posture I've ever seen."

Brick wanted to laugh. KC was no athlete and never stood up straight.

"Are you getting lonely out there?" Brick asked. He still found it hard to believe that KC would want to see them. What about his family? What about Ruby?

Of course, Harley and Ruby were fast friends. They were talking about somebody on Esty who made doll clothes and doll houses. They talked about the good and the bad of last year over hot tea and a fruit tray.

"Well, you know, she knew I talked to you guys all the time," KC shrugged about why Ruby was here.

"We thought you might introduce her in a face chat at least," Brick didn't think KC would ever be his best bud, but he looked over his shoulder. Evidently, they would be couple friends even from afar.

  6. KC and Ruby visited Brick and Harley unexpectedly. "We had nothing better to do", said KC. Really?! I would have got insulted by that remark.

  7. The enigmas we try to decipher in other people are sometimes very similar to those we keep within ourselves.
