Jen wished she hadn't said anything to Em, but she knew her friend was curious. Funny, how she'd become close to both of them.
In the beginning, it was just Yuki and in a certain way, Jen knew she was smitten by that grownup orphan girl. Truly, she wanted Yuki to be happy. If only she'd been older..maybe.
She shook the thought. Jen liked Em. Amy loved Em and Axton too. And they were going to have a baby. It was so comforting to know and yet Jen felt like a bundle of nerves at the moment.
"Have you met someone?" Em looked at Jen as if she was happy for her. Em reached for Jen's hand. The tea could wait. Jen could sit on the edge of the bed and tell her everything.
"You could..could say that," Jen nodded. "Actually, it's kind of crazy." Jen imagined she looked crazy as she nodded about it. "I-I could just blame it on that damn blizzard in January."
"January?" It was like Em was putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Maybe Jen didn't need to say anything else. She felt a little stupid about it.
"You and Stan?"
Jen nodded. She handed over the warm tea from the tray on the nightstand.
"Does Amy know?"
"I don't think so," Jen shrugged. "She's so wrapped up in her own teenage romance with Eli. How could she?" Jen practically snapped about it, but then mentioned how Amy was trying. "She's taking violin now." Jen sipped her Celestial green tea. "She's very good you know. I try my best to stay out of the way..because..because I want her to find herself with music."
"See, you are a wonderful mother," Em nodded with a smile.
"I don't know if I'd go that far," Jen told her it was hard being a mother to a teenager. "I know I'm at fault. I could never be like you. I don't know how..how to be..so..so domestic."
Still, this was her family, and she wanted to be a part of it.
Very nice! I read it with pleasure :)
