Vanna senses more than her body is changing so is her mind about the most peculiar things. True, she might have been angry with Maizy falling out of her life and Harry's too. Although, she didn't mean to go that far on the Fourth.
Yes, they'd brought Harry along. He'd been in such a sad state and Koda was going to make sure nothing went bad with his best bud. He didn't drink that night and Harry stuck with the Dr. Pepper since it was a golden rule at his company to always drink Dr. Pepper.
So there they were in the mix of the neighborhood party. Koda brought some cookies and pasta salad and they were free to eat as much barbecue as they wanted. And just when Vanna was about to enjoy a real barbecue rib, Mali said she better rethink her options.
It was like being at daycare all over again when her favorite teacher informed her mother at Wal-mart that Vanna was already potty trained. Except now Vanna is a grownup and pregnant.
Vanna did her best to make it all nice with the nurse she knew from the OBGYN. She introduced Mali to Harry.
Now Koda says to her as they are getting ready for Mali and Harry to come over for dinner, "This is a bad idea." He chops up more onion and tomato for the tacos. The shredded cheese is really all Vanna can think about. She snatches a flake or two and Koda swats her away as if she will be a bad bug at this dinner party.
Vanna twists her head toward him with a wince and savors every bit of the cheese in her mouth, "I don't know what you're talking about." Vanna mumbles, after all she went to great lengths to look presentable. She isn't a ball of energy like she used to be. If it was up to her she'd still be in her tie-dye sleep pants and going braless in one of Koda's tanks.
Finally, she confesses that she knows Harry is hurt, but he needs to move on. "It's not like I'm thinking they'll get married. And..and..well I didn't know they'd hit it off."
"They have not hit it off," Koda tells her this is all her doing. "You just don't like having a third wheel." He frowns as if she is only thinking of herself.
Vanna sighs, "Whatever."
She believes this fatherhood thing is making Koda high-strung. She keeps assuring him just because he didn't have a dad doesn't mean he'll be the worst. She believes he will be a better dad than he knows.
"Don't you know, it's nice to have a nurse around," Vanna guesses she might be a little self-centered, but she has a bun in the oven. She pats down her stomach. She has to look out for him, too.
Always great, your titles

ReplyDeletecookies are always a good option for party:D
ReplyDeleteI would not like having my hand swatted away. Let her eat what she wants. Sounds like he's too controlling for my liking.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, I think that anyone who grew up without a father, for whatever reason, is a very present and loving father, because he knows and has felt what he was missing!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

I so enjoyed it dear Elie
ReplyDeleteI think she can carry out the responsibility of him 🤣
I agree with her. Just because he didn't have a dad doesn't mean he'll be a bad dad. Maybe he will be the dad he never had!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love a Vanna update. I especially enjoyed this part:
ReplyDelete"It was like being at daycare all over again when her favorite teacher informed her mother at Wal-mart that Vanna was already potty-trained. Except now Vanna is a grownup and pregnant."
I can relate to her not liking to be told what to do, especially about what she should and shouldn't eat -- even when it's true! And yet . . . I love how you always point out that despite her vain ways, Vanna has the makings of a wonderful mother:
"Vanna guesses she might be a little self-centered, but she has a bun in the oven. She pats down her stomach. She has to look out for him, too."
I hope you make a mint at your old book sale. And that you don't catch your coworker's contact dermatitis. No one needs that! 📕📙📒📗📘
