"Oh, God, it's been the most boring day ever."
Of course, when Naoki said it, he didn't know his voice would echo through the men's restroom. He was just relieved to hear Tyra pick up. He listened to see if anyone was in the stalls. He'd been hiding in the restroom for some time while everyone else was going gaga over a baby that he was basically frightened of. Ma had tried so many times to get him to hold the infant, but he couldn't. It scared him. So he was here, wondering why all this was happening to him now, when he didn't need family. He had Ma. Or he thought he did. Until now.
"You are so funny."
He could imagine her goofy smile when she said it. Instantly, he smiled back.
"Am I?"
"You're an idiot." She woke him up that he needed to be with family.
"What?" He was crushed as he pushed his shaggy hair out of his face. Honestly, the stall was new and felt like a tiny hotel. He wouldn't be here if it hadn't been so inviting. Of course, he was not relaxing on the throne. He was on his feet, getting tired by the minute.
"Why are you calling me, you've been texting like you have a disease of some kind," she told him.
He didn't like hearing this. Why was she giving him a hardtime? Didn't she know it had been days since he'd seen her.
"What are you doing right now?"
"I just got out of the shower."
Tyra explained she would still be in the shower if he hadn't called.
He laughed. But then it felt awkward. Was he being weird? He wouldn't ask. He would just imagine her getting out of the shower and that was where he wanted to be. Not here. Not at the hospital.
He heard a stall open then. Someone was here after all.
"Shit?"
"What is it?"
"Oh, now you're worried." He asked for her address. Somehow, he didn't get it last time because they met at the park. It felt like something top secret then. Now he wanted everyone to know they were a couple.
"I'm coming to get you."
Naoki was in a huff.
"Oh, really?"
But first, he wanted to know who was in the men's room besides him. He hurried on his way. Just as he suspected, it was Alfie and Boone's Dad, the number one man his mother despised and so did he.
Its always one of the hardest battles people take:-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting
ReplyDeleteHello, I remember that when my brother became a father he also got upset when I told him that he was now a daddy!!! I think it's a difficult process for men, it's not easy for women either! It's a big change to go from being a son to being a father! Thanks for your comments, I really enjoy reading them!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week!
Thanks for your comment! Naoki is not the father. He's a bit left out of the loop of this family situation. He was the kid that Alfie's (the father of the baby they are talking about) mother found at the airport and adopted a decade or so ago. So he's actually been raised an only child. And it feels like a chore to him to bond with Alfie and Boone. He'd rather be having fun with with Tyra.
DeleteThe best way to ruin a friendship is to confuse it with a relationship!
ReplyDelete(κα΄κ) Poetic and cinematic greetings.

The two may not be on the same wavelength at the moment.
ReplyDeleteInteresting situation.
ReplyDeleteUy que tierno fragmento. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteTalk about a cliff-hanger of an ending! I can't wait to read when happens next.
ReplyDeleteI had to smile at Naoki hiding in the toilet away from the baby, I used to do exactly the same when women I worked with used to bring theirs in when they were on maternity leave. Babies freak me out! xxx
