Millie thought she might be light-headed when she heard the news from Chili. She felt herself wanting to reply, YOU MEAN ME? But she kept calm and listened. "I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
Oh, she was giddy. Funny, she felt like going back to bed five minutes ago at nine in the morning, now she was raring to go. She called KC right away as she put on her shoes.
"I'm going to work for Chili!"
KC said nothing. All this time, he wanted her to take over for Ruby, but she wouldn't. She didn't want to upset Ruby, thinking she might take her job away from her.
"Are you sure you can handle it?" He was so adamant. That was not what she wanted to hear.
"I can do it," she reminded him, she was good with old timers and little kids too. "I used to work at my uncle's ice cream place. You know that."
Naturally, he made her feel this was a step down instead of a step up. He'd wanted to show her how to get started in the recording business.
"But she needs me," Millie wanted to help, and she would be making more money than just spending a couple of hours a day where KC worked. "I think it's best for right now."
She didn't want the pressure of spending too much time together.
"OK."
She knew it took a lot out of him to say that word. She told him she loved him and went to freshen her makeup. She knew she looked fine in her summer top and jeans. She didn't even worry about a bra. After all, she doubt she could find one in her messy undie drawer.
