anywhere but here

Some R rated movie this was turning out to be. Kyle brought over Live Free Die Hard.

"Are you for real?" She didn't mean to kill the almost date night mood, but really Ellie could think of anything else to do but this.

"What? You don't like Bruce?" Kyle looked offended.

"No, its just I thought we were going out." Ellie wasn't going to make that much of a big deal out of it since really she wasn't so sure she was up to be scene with Kyle just yet, and what if they got in trouble at the theater if they did get in to see the film. "I just didn't know."

"Change of plans." Simple as that.

"All right, " Ellie shrugged. "You warm up the dvd player and I'll microwave the popcorn." She went to the kitchen. He went to the livingroom.

"You're gonna love it. I know you will." Kyle told her.

Ellie gritted a smile and punched the popcorn button on the microwave and waited.

When she got back to the sofa the previews were in full force. She was so in hopes it had already started, but no. Kyle was waiting.

"How many times have you seen this movie?" She asked setting down next to him.

"A couple of times. Granted, its not as good as the original or was that Die Hard Two. Anyway, it'll be a blast." Kyle told her.

It felt more like a headache to Ellie as she took a bite of popcorn. Just then the doorbell rang.

"You expecting someone?" Kyle looked at her as if maybe she had a surprise for him.

"No, not anyone." Perhaps the UPS man had finally found there house, and she was getting that lap top that somehow got neglected from the Christmas wish list. Maybe Dad was going to get it for her now. That would definitely make up for a lot of no show dinners.

But it wasn't the UPS man, nor a box of anything for her, it was Cory.

She almost coughed up her popcorn.

"Hi," she could barely hear her voice.

"Well, who is it?" Kyle came up from behind her.

"Uh, Cory, um, this is Kyle." She thumbed Kyle. "Uh, what are you doing here?"

"I was walking by. Thought, I check to see if you really lived here." He had a two liter Pepsi in his hand. "Are you busy?"

"Well-" She thought they might be.

"No, not at all." Kyle broke in, opened the door wider to let him in. "Just watching Live Free Die Hard. Want to watch?"

"Hey, I love that movie," Cory smiled. Ellie moved back.

They chatted up Bruce Willis along with different car crashes and other uber-violent moments from from the various Die Hard movies. Ellie wasn't exactly following the conversation but found herself sitting between the two of them as the movie began.

Just what she always wanted, being in the middle of a conversation about a movie she couldn't stand. Not.
