no such luck

All right, it was a mistake. Ellie knew that. The look on Cory's face told her so. He didn't go for this. She didn't think he'd be that mad.

But he said nothing. Just his coldness lingered in the moments afterwards. It was almost an out of body experience. Ellie wanted to be away from him. When the bell rang she went the opposite direction, out past the smokers on the hill toward the park. She needed to be alone. She needed to get her act together before she lost it on a park bench.

The nerve. She hated Cory. Instantly. He was more than a bad kisser. And she wanted to tell him that she wasn't even thinking of him. She wasn't. Kyle was on her mind. In her head, she was kissing Kyle not him.

She took a deep breath. Behind her eyes she felt a slight ache. Was this something physical or mental? She looked up then and saw him there pawing the grass with a stick, dawdling a long. It was Kyle.

"Hey, you waiting for me?" He looked a bit sure of himself as if he'd planned this weeks ago.

"What are you doing here?"

"I don't know, I might go to school." He yawned. "I might not. And you?"

"Nothing."

"Ellie, not at school? I got another fifteen minutes to kill, but the bell already rang for you."

"So."

"Want to kill fifteen minutes with me?" He came over and sat next to her. Kissed her before she had time to think about it. It was perfection. It was what she'd hoped for with Cory.

She felt like an idiot now.

"Whats wrong?" He held his finger under her chin.

"Nothing."

"Leia, huh?"

"Yes."

"Well, forget about her." He kissed her then, but more deeply and ..and more of everything than she remembered before.

"OK." She felt as if she was definitely under his spell now. It was all a bit intoxicating and exciting especially on an overcast morning when she should be getting out her math assignment right now to turn in.

"I know a place." He grinned.

"Is this gonna take more than fifteen minutes?" She breathed.

"Possibly." Impishly, he smiled more, took her hand to lead the way.
