What was she thinking? Ellie going to Leia's after school.
"We're gonna have so much fun," Leia promised. "Let me do your makeup. I could do so much with your hair."
"I bet you could," Ellie kept her cap on. Nobody was going toward her blond braid. "I just don't think I can stay. "
She and Kyle didn't have plans, but generally, it just happened. He'd come over. They'd watch a movie. Maybe she'd watch him play Grand Theft Auto and then he'd try to teach her a few things about the game. But it was fun, and it was never really boring, especially with Kyle around.
"What about Roxie?" Ellie watched Leia show off her new collection of spring tops in her closet.
"What about her?" Leia shrugged.
"You've been ignoring her." Ellie watched Leia hop on her bed as if she were a little princess.
"I thought you'd want me too." She stared back at Ellie that she better get on this bed with her if she was going to share any of her Godiva chocolates with her.
"Look," Ellie hesitated, but finally edged herself next to Leia and took a chocolate. "If this thing with Rex would have never happened, would Roxie be here right now instead of me?"
Leia laughed, fell back on her bed as if she was a true diva. The she sat back up. "Of course not."
Ellie didn't believe her as she ate at the chocolate. She wanted to be her friend, but then it felt so artificial too. Really, Roxie did belong here.
"Promise me, you'll call Roxie this weekend," Ellie hopped off the bed. She'd had enough. It just wasn't her gig.
"Why?"
"Cause I think she misses you. You guys spent weeks together over that Ball thing you went too. You just can't drop somebody like that, Leia." Ellie wasn't sure how to explain it.
"Maybe some day we can all do something together." Ellie sighed.
"We are. You and I are going to the movies with Nick and his brother," Leia said.
"Do you even know if they live at the same house? And even if they do? Do they really even speak to each other?" Ellie then asked.
"Well, who's a downer, now? Ellie, you're gonna jinx this before it ever happens." Leia said.
Ellie just smiled to herself and left.
