"Are you sure you want to quit?" Eric's boss was still nice to him although, it wasn't like before. Not like when his boss used to think maybe he had a chance with him. Eric figured out now.

Of course, at the time, Eric wasn't exactly aware of it. OK, maybe a little. Why else was he giving him all those free tickets to these unheard of bands. Maybe because, he didn't know who else would want them? Back then, it was OK. Now suddenly, it wasn't. He just made Eric nervous now.

"Yeah, its my senior year. I want to enjoy it, you know." Was that good enough of an excuse? He hoped.

But then a week later after he quit, he missed the money. Granted, it wasn't a huge salary, but it was nice to have money for dates and of course gas.

Why had he quit? What an awful time to quit in the state of the economy. But then he heard others were being let go at the music store. There was even a threat of it closing.

"Man, that sucks," Eric had told one of his friends who was losing his job there. Who knew that was going to happen. Even his boss would be losing his job too. It felt like the downward spiral of things.

This was so depressing.

Of course, he had to be there to cheer Ellie on with her driver's ed. She was in turmoil with the instructor and driving. Finally, she'd gotten in to the two week class. But then she'd have to wait six months on top of that before getting a real driver's license. It was a new law in the state to crack down on the recklessness of teenage driving.

"But I want a job," No more babysitting for her.

"Maybe we can find a job somewhere together." He thought of them going in to work together, perhaps. That would be cool, right?

"What if you suddenly, hate it?" Ellie brought this up at school while they were in the hall.

"I wouldn't do that."

"You hate everything." She told him.

"What? I'm not like that?" Eric winced about the matter. "We need to do these things together, you know. It might be fun."

"I don't think so." She'd decided she'd apply at Gordman's in the new shopping center for a seasonal job. "Maybe you could apply at Borders."

"Oh really."

"You'd probably like it."

"Maybe I want something different."

He had doubts she'd even apply. She still had to manage through driver's ed. Of course, he didn't like to be told where to work, either. He'd apply at the mega grocery store. That would be different. He would not hate everything. She would see.

He was flexible. Very flexible. And yes, he could embrace change. Well, it sounded good to say. He'd just have to think about it.
