into the darkness

Kyle wasn't so sure he was so happy about this. They'd dropped Derrick off back at her house and then they loaded up Kyle's bike to drive him home. Amanda wanted to see just where he kept his stash of little cigarettes at the library.

He didn't want to say something lame like, "What if we get caught?" Instead he was just trying to be mysterious about it.

"How do you know if you'd like it, you know. You never tried it so-"

"Don't be like my brother. He smokes weed all the time, and he'll never let me have any. He just won't. He says he likes me just the way I am and you know, crap like that," Amanda rolled her eyes as they walked around in the dark by the library.

"Well, maybe he's got a point, you know," Kyle shrugged.

"You're just stingy like he is, I guess. Somebody might smoke it all up, and he's under so much pressure, ugh, I'm the one under pressure. You don't see him doing anything around the house. Lazy bum." Amanda explained so animated that Kyle almost laughed. Really, she should be acting this stuff on stage in front of people. She was good at this kind of drama.

"Well, if he's smoking this stuff all the time, you know, maybe he's like one of those people they have those commercials about where everything passes them by when they're on drugs." Kyle told her.

"And you're not like that?" She stared at him then.

"Obviously not. I've been hyperactive all my life. Been through Ritalin more than I want to admit. Its different. All right. I can handle it. You, I don't know. If we- you know, do this, you probably shouldn't drive home."

"What am I supposed to do?" She had her hands shoved into her plaid hoodie.

"I don't think we should do it." He shook his head.

"You said we could." Amanda snapped.

"OK, lets do it, but I warned you." He took the brick out of the side wall and got his baggie of substance out.

She'd parked her car on the side of the street as if it was meant to be there.

"Now what?" She stared at him as if this was something that needed to be done hours ago.

"I know a place. Its getting cold. Nobody comes around there, but we'll have to walk," Kyle mysteriously told her. He put her hood on then, and she followed him into the darkness.

  5. Amanda isn't being sensible... People always say weed is harmless, but I know a person who has ended up in a mental institution because of it.
