at the show

Amanda liked being behind the scenes at the musical where Kyle worked. It was refreshing. Somehow. Even if at her own school a musical was in the works. But she wasn't in it. Doyle was the star. Evidently. Not that he'd made a big deal out of it. He'd been rather cold about it. He wasn't at all as she remembered. He'd been a show off, but now he wasn't.

Not that he was on her mind. He wasn't. It was just the fact remained she would probably be staring in that musical with him if she wasn't, well, huge. Of course, there were other things too. Like life in general at the moment. She supposed she was coping as long as no one asked her about anything. Then she might have a melt down.

So it was good to be away from there. Kyle had talked her in to coming to the musical. Of course, he was a hop and a skip there and then he was gone. Somewhere. She might have seen him the total of fifteen minutes since she'd been here for what seemed forever. It was odd, but she was OK. Naturally, from time to time she'd have someone come by and stare at her as if she shouldn't be here.

Then she saw Kelsey.

"Are you in the musical?" Amanda looked at her.

"No." Kelsey smiled. "I can't carry a tune. What are you doing here?"

"Nothing, really."

"I was coming to ask Kyle if he wanted to go with Nick and me to Village Inn after the show."

"Oh." Amanda didn't know what else to say.

"It would be fun," Kelsey kept her hands in her back pockets as she came closer. "You could come and sit with me and Nick. If you want. You can see the musical up close, you know."

"I dunno. Kyle might-" It felt odd to talk to Kelsey. Wasn't she the enemy?

"Come on," she grabbed a pen then to write. "I'll leave him a note. Tell him that you are with us. And then we can go out together after the show."

"OK," Amanda shrugged. She guessed she could do that.
