one more thing

Ellie was half asleep when she saw Lon getting dressed. It was barely light out. He was going to work.

"You didn't tell me you had work today?" She rubbed sleep from her eyes and rose up on her elbows in bed.

"I know." He told her. "Maybe I'll get off early. We're kind of invited to a BBQ tonight at my boss' house."

"I just want us to stay in," Ellie fretted slighted.

"We'll make it an early evening, promise." He nodded. "Believe me, I want to go to bed early."

"You should call in sick." Ellie thought that sounded perfect.

"I can't." He kissed her then. "Can you do one thing for me?"

"What?" She looked at him, thinking it must be laundry. Lord knows, she had her own to get too. She had taken it home and came back with it. None of it done.

"Talk to Olivia." He straightened his feed cap on then.

"Why?" Ellie squinted.

"Because she needs a girl to talk to and you're a girl. OK, you're a woman, but you know what I mean. See if she's all right. Everything with her and Roger and with her Mom and Dad. She'll need someone to listen to her." Lon sighed.

"Oh." Ellie nodded. She guessed he was right. She could do that. "All right."

He kissed her once more, and she wasn't sure if he was leaving or not. Not. He peeled his cap off. His shirt too and slid right out of his jeans as well and got back into bed with her.

"I've got thirty minutes before I have to get there." He smiled.
