"How many times do I have to tell you, we're just friends?" Amanda was getting annoyed with all of Ellie's questions about Elliot before she was getting ready to leave.
"I just wish you could stay here with Rosie." Ellie told her. It was that simple.
"I can't. It doesn't feel right. I can't talk about this with them. And, and it was mistake. OK. I'm sorry! I really am, but if Kyle is-"
"He does love you." Ellie squinted. "He might be mad at you, but he still loves you."
"It doesn't matter. Its me. There is so much I want to do that I couldn't before. And-"
"What about Kyle? He's been there, through all of this with you. He's worked his butt off, you know that. Saving up and everything." Ellie told her.
"I'm sorry," Amanda was all teary eyed. "I can move in with Elliot. I'll have my own room with Rosie, and I can still go to college. It might not be perfect, but its the best I can do for now."
Ellie guessed it would have been awkward for Amanda to be there at Kyle's now. Even so, Ellie felt miserable on the ride home even if things had gone so smoothly with her Dad and Lon.
"Hey, you can't control everything." Lon squeezed her shoulder on the drive home. "Believe me, I've tried. You just have to keep smiling, be happy when you see Rosie, again. She needs to have happy people around her. She won't know what happy is if she has angry people about."
Ellie looked over at Lon. She wondered how he knew things like this.
