Eric still couldn't believe it. Ellie married to Lon. He hadn't gone to the ceremony, but he did go to the little party that Olivia and Roger were having.for them. It was just unbelievable. He couldn't even imagine it. Maybe it was just a dream, but he was there for the toast and the dinner. All this happiness was stifling him.
"You know, I knew it would happen as soon as I saw you two together." Roger reminisced all sweet and laughing to the couple.
Eric just watched. He didn't believe that for a second. More like Roger hoping it wouldn't happen.
"Who knows, Olivia might be next." He was so silly. Eric had to laugh. Olivia smiled but that was all. That couldn't happen, could it?
Why were all these young people getting married? He wanted to tell them it was insane. First Amanda. Now Ellie and Lon. But deep down, Eric wished he was with Syd right now and that she would want to marry him. Why was he so certain that she was the one? What if she wasn't?
He sat there watching Ellie and Lon open presents. Even Heath had sent a card with money. Naturally, Eric didn't think about a gift at all. As it was he was trying to think about how he and Syd might be if they were together. They'd wear each other's clothes. Eat cereal for every meal, and he wouldn't even care, neither would she because they'd be together.
Finally he dug in his wallet and found two twenties. He guessed he could give them something, but he nudged Olivia then.
"You have a card or something? I should give them something." Really, it was freaky how many people knew they were going to the justice of the peace, but him.
"Sure." She nodded and he followed her into the kitchen. She pulled out a drawer by the house phone and found some cards with a castle and princess. They were blank inside. "Will this do?" He nodded and she gave him a pen as he sat down at the kitchen table.
"God, I don't even know what to write." He shook his head.
"When have you ever been at a loss for words?" Olivia hugged herself as she watched him.
"Things have been just crazy, lately." He sighed. "I'm thinking of seeing Syd. You know, going up and-and-"
"You're sure that's a good idea?" She winced. "You might not like what you find."
"Well, I- I found her address. I forgot that she gave it to me. I just found it in my coat pocket, yesterday. Don't you think that's a sign?" Eric looked up at Olivia.
She just shrugged giving him no hope, what's so ever.
"You gonna marry Roger?" He asked.
"I dunno." She smiled as if there might be a chance. "Believe me, it won't be anytime soon."
Eric just nodded. He took a deep breath and started writing.
Be good to each other. May it always be bliss.
