We ♥ It
Doyle finally called.
Roger thought he might pass out, trying to think what to say.
"What's up?" Roger couldn't help but smile. This was awesome. Maybe. He had to think clear headed about this. He didn't know what to say.
"You know Family Force 5 was in town last night. I didn't see you."
"Damn, were they?" He kicked his bed hard then with his bare toe and almost fell in the floor. So Doyle was straight edge, evidently. What did that mean, exactly? Just edge or was that straight too? Roger couldn't come out and ask. Roger was sure he called to just talk.
"Why didn't you call me?" Doyle asked then.
"God, I've been busy, you know?" No, he wasn't. They'd cut his hours back at the grocery store because he said he was trying out for a play, which he didn't try out for. He'd sulked in his room, mostly. Who wanted to be around a depressed dude like him, anyway?
"I guess you'd be too busy for NeverShoutNever!" Doyle mentioned. Roger thought of Olivia then. That was her boy. She loved those damn silly whimsical songs of his. He could hardly stand him.
"Oh, uh, we could get some friends together, and go, you know." Why was he thinking of Olivia? She had Ravi. Was he crazy? But this was just friends. Wasn't it? Yeah, he was sure of it. He was just a friend to Doyle. Not even that.
"Sure." Doyle sounded happy about it. It wasn't a date or anything. It would be good. Roger had to keep thinking.
"Thanks, you know. Calling me and all. I'll call. Promise." Roger wanted to feel so happy about this, but he felt way too sad to smile. He couldn't get his hopes up about Doyle.
