there will be fireworks
Kyle didn't even know Elliot could play any sort of instrument. He surprised him. Before he knew it, Doyle and Roger were over. Roger got out his drums that his dad still had at the house. Honestly, Kyle couldn't remember he'd had this much fun just playing around. Of course, they had Doyle and Derrick to keep everyone from going their own way with the music. Doyle had a nitch for getting harmony in the group. Derrick was a major player who could point out exactly what was wrong. He knew the keys, the timing. Kyle just stood their in awe. There, Derrick was showing him what keys to play on the keyboard.
"Hey, we sound pretty good." Kyle thought, anyway.
"We aren't that good." Derrick told him, but he went right on playing.
Of course, while he was in the garage trying to figure out the chorus to an MGMT tune, other things were happening. Lon was getting the fire going for the grilling. He had made turkey sausage and was smoking them most of the day along with a brisket.
Eric and Amanda were having it out about why Evan couldn't stay at the house all week while Syd was making crafts with Charity and Rosie. Ellie looked after the little ones so Olivia and Ravi could help make a birthday cake for Ellie. Ravi carved up watermelon too.
And then Amber showed up.
Kyle couldn't decide if she was mad at him or what.
"What happened?" It was getting close to dinner and maybe they'd played far too long into the afternoon.
He and Amber weren't quite engaged. All he could afford was a promise ring. It would be quite a long engagement. 4 or more years. Actually.
She stomped off to the back yard so they could be alone. He followed, wondering what this could be about.
"I hate my Dad so much!" She told him.
"Are you sure?" He thought they always got along. He guessed. Well, they didn't talk that much. Her Dad was a busy man.
"Yes. I-I-" She was shaking.
"Yeah, huh!" She glared at him. "Do you know what he said when he found my birth control pills?"
"Uh." Kyle didn't know if he really wanted to know, and he was even a little shocked to find out about them since they were going to wait until they got married to have sex.
"I'm not welcomed there anymore." She hugged herself then. "I told him fine. I would just leave and take my pills with me."
"Did you take anything else?" He winced as he was starting to fight mosquitoes. as well.
"My car." She scowled.
"So? What? What?" Kyle winced, clearing his throat. What did this exactly mean? She was with him now?
"I guess we're on our own." She told him.
Kyle cleared his throat more. He was sure he didn't know what to say.
Kyle stood there in shock. It was the last thing he expected. What were they going to do?
