where does it go now

Ian wished he wouldn't think about Kayla, but he did. She was on his mind. All the time. Even at work, he did his best to ignore her because she was ignoring him. Sometimes, he felt she was down right mean to him. But he knew it was best to stay away from her. Do as he was told. Get his job done and then be his lonely self. It was beginning to feel so lonely.

He was ignoring Cami, too. He didn't want to go back, because as sure as he did, it would be over again. It was hard being friends with her. But there she was at the library everyday.

He gave her the silent treatment.

"Don you know, that kind of thing just makes her want you more." Rick had grinned about it as if they were the best of friends. Ian wondered if thats what he thought about Kayla. The less she said to him, the more Rick wanted her.

But as it was, he saw Rick leave with this guy he'd been flirting with all week. It was kind of weird. Since Rick flirted with just about everyone. He'd told him that he'd dated all sorts of people from this local web dating site. Evidently, he meant everyone.

"So did you sign up for that dating web site, Rick keeps going on about?" He asked Kayla out of the blue. They were alone. He hadn't mentioned the river or anything about her and him.

"No." She scowled. "I would never do something like that."

Ian slightly smiled. He was glad that she wouldn't, but still he had a pretty good idea it wouldn't be him that she'd be seeing, either.

"So how do you like the new job?" He kept hoping she'd at least talk to him. It was a good feeling just to have her speak to him.

"I dunno. I'm really tired. I don't feel like doing anything." Maybe that was why she was like this. He had nothing to do with it.

It was a bit of a relief. But he had a feeling that she wanted to keep him in the dark and ignore him.

"Sorry." He looked at her. "Do you like your new place? Is it OK?" He knew he might have asked too much.

"I guess. Its not as big as I imagined." She shrugged at her desk.

Ian just nodded, wishing he could see it, but he knew he wouldn't. They were hardly friends now. She had her life. He had high school to think about. Still he felt a wreck and wished he didn't feel so sad, but he guessed it had to be that way.
