It was almost closing time, but Kayla was startled. She couldn't believe Ian was stuck with a baby, someone who didn't think she was toddler and Amy too. Unbelievable.
Of course, he was no help earlier about suggesting anything to send Oliver. What she really wanted to do was find a way she could get them both on a family phone plan and she'd just mail Oliver a phone. They had to stay connected.
"No, what you really want is just to put yourself in a box and mail yourself to him." Ian was a bit sullen. Which put Kayla off. Wasn't it his idea to begin with that she get to know his brother. He was the one who had given Oliver her phone number to begin with. She didn't say anymore about Oliver after that. He could be such a jerk, she thought.
"What are you gonna do?" Kayla asked now as he was closing up.
"I guess I'll call Eric. Find out if he wants me to take him to his place." Ian told her.
"But its so late. You'll be out so late." She couldn't help but think about his safety and two little kids.
"I'll help." Amy nodded as if she would make sure everything went smoothly.
"I'm not in trouble, am I?" Ian looked at Kayla.
"No." She shook her head. The kids had been dropped off as the library was closing. It wasn't like he'd been baby-sitting all evening. She scooted everyone out. Lights dimmed. It was time to go. She thought of calling Oliver when she got home, but she'd speed dialed him once she got in her car and it was locked.
"I just saw Ian," Kayla told him all about Amanda.
"So that's the way Eric does things, leaves it all for Ian to take care of?" Oliver sound concerned. She wasn't sure if he disliked Eric or the fact Oliver wasn't here to be a part of it.
"Oh, you just don't know Amanda." Kayla didn't either, but she knew enough to talk about her. She didn't feel so alone in her car, sitting there in the parking lot. She loved listening to Oliver's voice.
Funny, that she's talking about someone she doesn't really know. & how close she is to Oliver now.
ReplyDeleteI guess things have really changed between her and Ian now.
ReplyDeleteWow, so many changes in such a short amount of time. :/
ReplyDeleteI love how you went from that sad pic to a bit more devious pic of him.hehehehe..
