coming around

Liz didn't want to be the odd man out. She didn't. For the first time, she really wanted to have friends. Maybe she didn't know why. Exactly. Other than the fact, she wanted people on her side. And she wanted them to meet Munro.

Of course, he brought wine.

"I can't drink any." She kind of laughed. No one asked why. For obvious reasons, she supposed. Really, everyone ate and Munro talked about his favorite Italian places in town. Even Roger was getting chummy with Munro. Liz just kept smiling. She let Munro do all the talking. And really, no one was questioning her. Not until after dinner.

"What is really going on?" Syd started while they were in the kitchen. Just Syd and Olivia who were putting dishes in the dishwasher were the only ones around Liz.

"I-I've moved on." She almost smiled.

"What about Kip?" Olivia looked at her stomach.

"I dunno." She hadn't really thought about him. Well, she had in the beginning, but she thought of him less and less, as if some faded memory.

"You know, he's in India working at an orphanage." Of course, Syd would know.

"Oh." Liz hugged herself as if hopefully no one would notice how far along her pregnancy was. Earlier, she had just said all of Munro's cooking was making her fat. Possibly, it was. Now she felt bad that she hadn't tried to get a hold of Kip. "So you hear from him, then?"

"You don't?" Syd winced.

Liz shook her head, no.

"You want to hide this from him, don't you?" Syd pointed at her stomach then. Liz bit her bottom lip. She didn't know what to say. Maybe she was. She just didn't have the energy to bother with him now.

"I'm sorry, all right." Liz finally broke down as if she wasn't at total fault. "He said he didn't want to have anything to do with me."

Syd just nodded.  "You really need to tell him. You do."  Syd told her she'd help her. "You can do wonderful things on Skype." Syd smiled then. Of course, Liz couldn't think it being that wonderful for Kip to see her this way.
