who would have thunk it

Derrick swooped in, as soon and he smelled pizza, and went back to the basement with it. No way was he going to hang around and entertain Elliot's cousin. He wasn't his problem, but then he saw that look on Amanda's face. Derrick winced. He was about to lose his appetite.

"I don't like this." He told Ian over his cell after his 3 pieces of pepperoni pizza. He was taking a break from his video game. Granted, he should have been writing some music since he'd some how gotten into a music theory class. If he took this one and aced it, then they'd let him start taking music classes on the college level. Except it was more work than he could possibly attempt. After all, he was pretty much a couch potato.

"Don't like what?" Ian asked.

"My sister, she's an idiot." He rolled his eyes and tossed a piece of pizza back in the box. "She's gone gaga over Elliot's cousin. I just know it. I've seen that look. She really needs medical help."

"What?" Ian laughed.

"Never mind. She's just Amanda." He sighed. Really, this was all he had going on.

"Listen," Ian then started. "It might be a long shot, but if you've got nothing better to do. Just come on down to the library and volunteer to shelve. There's this opening, and I know they don't like hiring too many high school kids, but after this last flighty chick they had, you might be just what they need. You in?"

"Uh." Derrick felt a lump in his throat. "You think I could work there?"

"Maybe." Ian didn't sound for sure. "You could help out..if nothing else."

"OK." Derrick smiled. Wouldn't Elliot and Amanda be happy if he had a job?
