just the way it is
Ellie thought she might be sick. She guessed she really wasn't. This thing with Hannah. She knew she didn't have any say in the matter. It would have to be up to Lon and Reese. She was hoping Reese would cause a raucous of some kind over Hannah wanting to stay, but she didn't.
"Who does something like that?" She knew she was possibly ranting, but at least Olivia was there to listen. She was helping her take down Christmas decorations. Lon had taken the day off to get Hannah enrolled in the nearby school.
"Maybe she's hoping her mother will miss her." Olivia shrugged. "Kids do strange things."
"She's in love with Lon." Ellie kind of scowled. She didn't mean to sound jealous.
"Isn't that the way it should be when you're six?" Olivia smiled.
"Yeah, but I think he'd buy her the world if he could. Its like he doesn't think about the money involved. And ..and now he's got this plan of adding on to the house. Giving our bedroom to Hannah and making this huge bedroom and bathroom, just for us. I dunno. He's going a little crazy. I mean, I'd like for Zoe to have her own room. And look who has it now? Charlie and Zoe, together?" At least, he'd changed the rooms around. She guessed she'd have to get used to it.
"That can't happen til late spring. Can it?" Olivia stated as she put another ornament in a box.
"No." Ellie said quite sadly.
"Look, maybe Hannah will get tired, homesick, and she'll be home by February." Olivia was optimistic.
"Its just, I really, don't want to keep Lon from Hannah or anything. I don't. I'm just going to have to get used to it. That's all." Ellie had to keep telling herself this, but she felt as if she were falling apart on the inside. This was not the way she wanted to start the new year.
