Just one of those days

Sometimes, Syd wished she had a little drama in her life, but having Amanda stop by to see Evan was enough to last for quite a while. Amanda stopped in on her way from the University. Her student teaching was almost ending.

"I just don't know what to do." Amanda started. She was watching Evan beat his little hands on the coffee table as if he was giving her a concert, but Syd knew her mind was elsewhere.

"What is it?" Syd held on to Ella who was watching Evan as if she had to see everything he was doing. Of course, the baby was drooling everywhere, but Syd did she best she could with the diaper on her shoulder.

"Oh, God, I said I wouldn't say." Amanda tensed. "Never, ever in my wildest dreams would I ever think my brother and Eric's brother would be together. Its just insane." She had an odd laugh about it, but suddenly, it was quiet. She looked at Syd and let out a sigh. "God, I have to tell someone. But..but please don't judge me. OK?" She looked as if she were about to have a melt down. "You know, I'm with Asa, right?"

Syd nodded. Not that she knew anything official, but she could tell by the way Asa was around her when they visited that something was obviously going on. They were very much a couple.

"And, and that's what I want..even if Elliot moved back in. We're in the basement. He's got the bedroom." She looked back at Evan, but Syd knew she was picturing something else in her head. "God, Asa and I even traded in Elliot's old LTD. And..and he didn't even say anything about it. I'm sure the bank called him. I dunno. I know he knows, but he didn't go off the deep end about it."

"Well..what happened?" Syd didn't have all day. She put a strand of her dark curls behind her ear as she waited. She wiped Ella's wet chin and then looked at Amanda as if she were waiting for Syd to finish what she was doing so Amanda could have her full attention.

"Elliot kissed me." Amanda looked a bit frantic about the idea of it.

"Isn't that a good thing? He is your husband." Syd gave her a stunned look.

"God." She festered a sad frown as if she might start to cry, but really all she needed to do was blow her nose. "I kissed him back, Syd. It's like I was on autopilot, or something."

"You two should really talk." Syd nodded.

"No, I can't." She bit her bottom lip. "He's so. I dunno. Its just too late, you know."

"It wasn't that long ago." Syd was certain she still had a chance with Elliot.

"No. No, we should divorce." Amanda felt that was the right thing to do. "I have to let him go. I feel-I feel like I've kept him from so many things." She shook her head.

"Then you'll marry Asa?" Syd asked.

"No." She sighed. "I don't think I'll ever marry, again."

Syd knew she was crying this time. She handed her over the part of the diaper that wasn't wet. She wished Amanda could be a little more patience, but then again Syd knew it was hard to be patience.
