coming around tomorrow

"That him?" Finn asked as he sat on the bare wooden floor with Doyle in his room. He was going through boxes of pictures, and he was showing Finn pictures of when he was as a kid, camping and .....

"Yeah, that's Roger." Doyle wanted to get organized. Yet a part of him wanted to burn every picture he had of Roger too.

"He doesn't look like a lady killer." Finn teased.

"I should have known. He had a girlfriend before." He watched Finn stare at the snapshot of Roger. His fingers glided over his face.

"Yeah, you mentioned that." He pressed his lips tight and finally gave the picture back to Doyle.

"Olivia." Doyle shuffled his snapshot in with the rest. He was too tired to think of putting anything in order. The room was kind of mess as he looked around leaning his head against the regular sized bed.

"How did that happen? You break them up?" Finn wanted to know.

"No. They'd be been broken up, for awhile. She actually moved in with a guy already living there." Doyle shrugged.

"Ouch." Finn winced. "I dunno if I could live with that many people. I mean, I work with people, all the time. And I like people. But sometimes." Finn looked at the ceiling, "I just want to..be alone." He stared at Doyle intently.

Finn's house was small and old. Except the floor was really new. He rented it from a great Aunt. Actually, he was buying it, but it still felt like renting, he told Doyle. He felt he was doing more to the house than his great Aunt wanted done, since she was paying for the new things. Like the wooden floors and the new windows to keep the place snug and warm. Doyle liked it here.

"I don't really want to be like that." He helped Doyle with the boxes. They put them in the closet. "I was left alone, a lot, when I was kid. Really, I was OK. I watched a lot of TV, of course. My Mom worked, like two jobs and we lived in this little apartment. You know, a real latch key kid. I'd hurry home every afternoon. Couldn't wait to turn on the TV. My only friend, I guess." He was quiet then. Doyle wondered if there was anything left to tell. Doyle wanted to know Finn's past.

"There were bullies. I just wanted to..be away from them. They knew I was different, before I did. God, my Mom was always, its because of them that you're gay." He sort of laughed about it. "She's so funny." He left the room then and Doyle wasn't so sure he should even follow. Doyle sat down on the bed. It was a good sturdy bed. He slept sound the first night he was here.

He looked up to see Finn in the doorway. He was holding a scrapbook. Doyle patted down a place for him and Finn sat next to him. Finn opened the book up. There was a guy, who wasn't anything like Finn.

"That's Jonah." Finn pointed. "He thinks I'm complicated because I just wouldn't drop everything for him. We really hit it off at band camp one summer, my last year of high school. I loved him so much. He was fun. We stayed in touch. I thought, you know, we could make it through about anything. He had all these big plans. We were gonna have a band. Move to New York City. But this internship came along. And he moved to London. He still doesn't understand why I didn't go." Finn studied Jonah's picture. "I knew him for such a long time, you know. I kind of knew it was over before he even got the call that he was going." He was quiet then as he put the book away. "When it ends, it just ends, you know."

He looked at Doyle, leaned in ever so carefully. They kissed. So quaint and true. Doyle couldn't help but think it was the beginning of something new.
