just one of those days

Penelope still felt weird around her mother. It was even more weird that her Mom and what's his face (Steve) moved in with Olivia's Dad. She knew she wasn't suppose to call him Dad, but she wanted too.

Yes, Penelope had issues, but they didn't take over her life, anymore. Besides, there was only person on her mind..and she'd rather not discuss him. As it was, each minute felt like an hour with her mother and Olivia.

"Oh, Penny, you should wear more dresses." Her mother picked something romantic right off the hanger in a shop, where Penelope wouldn't think of buying. It was much shorter than her usual outfits. Of course, the usual was her police uniform.

"I really have enough dresses. Its..its Olivia you're thinking of." Penelope gritted a smile.

"I think Penny has something on her mind she wants to discuss." Her mother smiled, almost pinching Penelope's cheek, but Penelope pulled away. She didn't feel the need to be touched. Penelope looked to Olivia for help who was digging out all sorts of pale shirts with ruffles. Penelope made a face then hoping her sister didn't want them to dress up like pirates.

"You, still seeing Elliot?" Olivia looked to Penelope, who glared right back. How dare she? Penelope jerked up a sundress with sunflowers then. Definitely, not her style.

"Didn't I meet him?" Her mother winced.

"I think you did, Mom." Olivia nodded. Penelope watched them. How come Olivia had such ease with this woman they hardly knew? Penelope wasn't sure she wanted to know her, but she knew Olivia's Dad wanted them both to connect. If only she could spend the day with him.

Suddenly, she thought of him taking her to the museums when she hardly knew what they were, but she was in such splendor then. And that brought her back to Elliot and the painting he'd made for her.

"Elliot did..did make me something." Of course, she was thinking of him and not the painting. Parts of him, perhaps. She tried not too. She looked at both of them who were smiling at her as if it must be a surprise. "You, you two have to come over, and, and see the painting." She nibbled her bottom lip then. Suddenly, she wondered if they were together, she and Elliot, where would it be? Where would they live? Could they live with the painting of the sunflowers in her old flat. She shook her head. He wouldn't want to live there. She couldn't live with him. She shook her head.

"What are you thinking?" Olivia asked

"Nothing." She frowned and took off with the sunflower dress to the dressing room.
