making a wrong turn

Olivia could hardly believe her luck. She found Ryan at the little diner where Ravi and Olivia lived up above. She hurried to scoot right in to the booth before Ryan could say no.

Of course, Ryan looked a bit bewildered, but was her youthful boyish self, wearing a suit and tie. She was dipping her sweet potato fries in mustard.

"Hi, how are you?" Olivia did her best to smile her way through this, hoping Ryan wouldn't up and runaway from her.

"Fine." Ryan glared at her.

"I live right upstairs." Olivia smiled as if she should come up, but she could see by Ryan's glare, that wasn't going to happen.

"So, you, still at the Children's theater?" Olivia asked.

Ryan nodded.

Olivia winced slightly then wondering if maybe Ryan had undiagnosed Asperger's of some kind. She was so indifferent. It made Olivia instantly bitter.

"Are you sure Roger is perfectly happy with you?" Olivia asked out of the blue.

"What do you mean?" She winced then.

"You never let him see any of us, anymore." Olivia told her. "What's the problem? Are we not good enough?" She didn't mean to pick a fight, but seriously, she was thinking of Roger.

Ryan stared at her sweet potato fries.

"Look, things could be a whole lot different. Roger could be a Dad by now. Perfectly, happy. And where would you be, in all of that?" Olivia felt her voice waver. She didn't wait for an answer. She didn't even say goodbye. Olivia got up and went upstairs.

By the time she got to the door, she felt her heart pounding as she unlocked the door. She shut the door behind her. "What have I done?" She winced so hard. She didn't hate Ryan. She just wanted her to talk. Olivia's body shook. She closed her eyes, hoping Ryan didn't talk about this to Roger.
