when its upside down

There were so many things pissing Josie off, over the holiday. She'd been in such a good mood before her mother arrived. Still, she wanted Ian to stay with her.

"When has that ever happened?" He looked at her as if that was totally impossible, the night when they were back in her room after the Derrick fiasco. She needed him near, and felt so comfortable when they were together, but he'd only stayed an hour or so. It was mostly cuddling.

After all, her mother was here. She knew he was a right, but there could always be a first time. She didn't want to think about her mother.

But here her mother, Camille was driving Josie to a doctor's appointment. Her mother wanted took charge. Even so, Josie was afraid they might get in an accident on the way. Her mother was not in a good mood.

"Is this because Asa drove you straight to the house when he picked you up, at the airport?" Josie shot her mom a look that she was acting like the teenager, not her. Of course, her mother wormed her way back, with that line "oh..I have nothing to do for the 4th."

As it was, her mother invited herself with Asa to a cookout at his cousin Elliot's. Thankfully, Josie got away to the river with Ian, hoping for some sort of happy 4th. They'd gone to support Derrick and Henry play at the battle of the bands, but it ended so horribly when Derrick had his episode. She was beginning to think he needed meds. Perhaps he was manic, or something.

Josie wince miserably, thinking of Henry's eye.  She got out her phone to text him. See how he was doing.

"NO TEXTING IN THE CAR." Her mother's frown was small as she looked over at Josie.

"What! I'm not even driving." Josie scowled.

"I don't care. You're distracting me." She informed her.

"Like I'm texting Asa write now about your erratic behavior." Josie eyeballed her.

"Are you?" Her mom gave her a stunned look and almost swerved .

"God, Mom, you know, its not a good idea ..to get involved with him. Don't you?" Josie knew she wasn't suppose to talk about Asa, but she could see what was going on.

"I don't even know what you are talking about." She snapped.

"Whatever." Josie sighed. Her phone jingled. It was Ian asking how the morning was going. Then Henry texted wondering if she'd seen Derrick.

Josie frowned.

"What?" Her mother wanted to know if her driving was bad. Camille reminded her she'd been in South Africa the last few months.

Josie rolled her eyes. She wished she could tell Henry something about Derrick. It would be nice too, if her mother knew how to get to the doctor's office.
