You can get addicted to a certain kinda sadness

When Henry woke up, he looked up to see the last person he expected. Audrey's fingers brushed through his hair. His brother, Aidan was there too, and this new guy he'd never seen before, who looked like a French actor, except he was more slacker than hipster.

"What happened?" Henry blinked as he struggled to get up on his own, but he was in Audrey's grasp. There were other people around. Henry felt kind of dizzy. He looked for Derrick. "Where did he go?"

His eye started to hurt. A little. He tried not to think about Derrick, hitting him. He guessed he deserved it. He should have kept quiet. He didn't get why Derrick was so worked up about Ian seeing Josie. Henry gave in, and let Audrey baby him. He gritted slightly as they kept talking about his eye. Somebody mentioned blood on his eyeball. Hearing those words made him feel all the more disgusted.

"I think he needs to get this seen about." Henry heard Audrey say to Aidan. And that guy that he later learned was Audrey's brother agreed too.

Henry didn't want to be upset, but he'd never been hit before. And maybe he was just a baby, after all. What really hurt was the fact that Derrick didn't stick around. He was long gone.

Dorian. Henry could feel it. Derrick was with Dorain. He knew. As if it were inevitable. He'd seen Dorian earlier, before they went on stage. It was such an odd feeling he got, when he saw Dorian around, in the shadows. Henry felt he wasn't a part of that world. He was such a newbie to such darkness. He didn't actually want to know what it was all about. But he started to breakdown, anyway.

Now Josie was worried. She wanted all of them to go to the hospital with him. Luckily, Aidan and Lucas helped him up. No ambulance to the rescue. Henry said he wanted to go home. That's all he needed. It was just a black eye.

Yet, he was shaken up. He didn't know Derrick was that kind of violent. He'd never seen him like that. But he wouldn't talk about it. Not now. Not ever. He didn't know if he even wanted to see Derrick, again. It was a quiet walk to the car.

"You sure, you're gonna be OK?" Josie looked so sad.

Henry only nodded. Audrey said good-bye to her brother. Henry thought she might let go of him for a second and hug her brother, but she didn't. No, she was hugging him close, like he might be her own. He wanted to make a soured face at her, but his eyeball hurt so, he couldn't manage it.

"Its gonna look worse tomorrow." Aidan said later, when they got home and he looked over the flesh wound in the bathroom. Aidan made a face of disgust. "What do you see in this guy, anyway?"

"I dunno." Henry squinted hard. Not only did his eye hurt, but his chest ached of sad emotions. Henry felt Derrick hurt him so much more than Derrick would ever know.
