I haven't thought of you.. lately at all
It was a few days later before it donned on Dorian who Josie was. Why hadn't he figured it out before?
Here he was standing in the middle of the clearance section at the bedding store with Luc staring at beds. It was time for Dorian to get his own bed.
"This is what a home really is." Luc plopped down on one as if he might take a snooze. "So get a good one."
Luc didn't like the looks of any of the old beds at Topher's house. No telling how many decades they'd been there. Luc told him there was nothing worse than a dusty old bed.
"Seriously, this is what you come home too. And you want a good night's rest. That much I know. So this might take some time." Luc yawned as he laid there, but he got up before he got too comfortable. "Well, go on. Try one." He coaxed then.
Dorian was timid enough, but finally, he fell back on one as if to take the plunge. He laid on the firm bed. Maybe it was too firm.
"I saw Derrick's baby." Dorian finally said the words.
"What?" Luc winced, as he sat on another bed.
Dorian didn't have the energy to say anymore. He felt numb about the whole situation with Derrick. Yes, he'd called Derrick, left text, messages. It seemed endless.
"Are you sure you two are a couple?" Luc asked .
"I don't really know anymore." He hugged himself, but went to try a softer bed. Only it might have been too soft.
"Oh..I get it now." Luc's smart mouth smirked. "You were just casual. Right? You know, nothing like, what real couples do in a relationship. Something like that?"
Dorian didn't want to talk about it. But he knew Luc was right. He'd spent plenty more time with Luc who even came home with Dorian from time to time to dinner with his parents. Luc even brought Dorian to his family's picnics.
He knew what Luc was getting at. What was really going on between Dorian and Derrick? Suddenly, Dorian felt painfully sad. He did want to be someone's boyfriend. Not this. He pushed his hair away from his face.
"Hey, find a bed. This is for you. You're spending your hard earned cash on something for you. Not him. Not anybody else. Just you." Luc encouraged.
Dorian sighed and got up to find more beds to try. He knew he could do this on his own, and yet he knew he needed a friend like Luc, too.
