"Yeah, she's left." Gilly put his phone away.
"Who? Is that? Who..who keeps leaving, you, messages?" Jonah was sure something was going on.
"Work." Gilly's large eyes just got larger.
"Its that one hand girl, isn't it?" Jonah scowled. What could Gilly possibly see in her?
"Fi's going on twenty-five, she's hardly a girl." Gilly explained. "And quit calling her the one hand girl. She was born that way."
Jonah snarled more at the thought of Fiona. It was totally wrong. He didn't like her much. Maybe it was the off putting fact that she didn't look completely normal with that stump of an arm of hers. Really, he thought a baby finger might be growing at the tip of it. It filled him with disgust. Or the fact she might be taking Gilly away from him. So what if they went way back. School days, who cares, he thought.
There was a tear inside his right eye. It would not go away. He guessed it was why he let Haley kiss him. As if he could move on too. Of course, he couldn't admit he liked it. Perhaps intrigued. Actually, they'd spent the entire afternoon making out in the dark, as if he could get better.. if given half a chance. And it did. But he wouldn't breathe a word of it, to anyone.
Naturally, he told Gilly he hated the movie so much.. he couldn't tell him anything about it.
Now, he was going to the states with Haley. At least her mother would accompany them. Haley would have to behave herself. Meanwhile, he acted as if he didn't want a thing to do with her.
But he couldn't get her out of his mind. And she was all talk about his story. How it could be improved. Well, he didn't want it improved.
It was all putting him in a bind. So much to think about. Jules' sister. His little sister, in fact. She was in school. He was old enough to know better. Wasn't he? But the girl did have serious snogging skills. She was unbelievable. Like a heat seeking missile.
He really didn't dislike anything about her. And she enjoyed a challenged. Evidently.
Jonah bit his bottom lip. "Promise me, you won't have that one hand girl over, while I'm away."
"Oh, Jonah. Do I look.. the party animal?" Gilly's squint was playful.
Jonah glared. Gilly was not making promises.
I so prefer Gilly to Jonah!!

I wish he wouldn't think of Fiona that way - so unkind. :(
ReplyDeleteJonah is always just a bit peculiar. But this is not a perfect world.
