somewhere on the edge

"Everybody's doing their best not to upset her." Ian shrugged when Jules asked about Kayla. "I think she'll be OK." She was home now. Oliver was with her.

Ian wasn't sure if Oliver told her he knew, or not. Actually, he couldn't see Oliver breathing a word of it to her, that he knew for a fact that he was probably not the father of her baby.

Ian felt a bit squeamish telling Jules about Kayla's situation, but then again, Jules was like family and he was helping out the family with the bakery.

"We might need a real drink, after this." Jules' smile was sly as he blended up some smoothies for them. There wasn't anything intoxicating in the drink. "So Josie knows?" Jules stared at Ian who only nodded.

"Well, worse things have happened. No one had a kill'n over a family dinner. As of yet, anyway." It was all a laugh to Jules. But it didn't last long. "Seems to be on the right track. All of you. You, went to Eric's. I noticed. So that's when it went down, did it?"

Ian really didn't want to discuss it, but then again, the cold berry smoothie was giving him a bit of a headache freeze.

"Oliver's being pretty normal, you know." Ian sighed thinking he could focus on the future too.

"Good." Jules nodded. "I've never seen him away from his shop this long. It just isn't like him."

They talked about the wedding then. How Jules' mum and sister would be here.

"They're flying in with Jonah, Gilly and the baby." Jules beamed as if he could hardly wait for the festives.

"You're getting Gilly on a plane?" Ian couldn't see it. As far as he knew, Gilly preferred to go on foot anywhere. He'd never learned to drive a car.

"Imagine that." Jules laughed as he nursed his smoothie. Ian was glad they could dwell on good times. He wanted to focus on the good and not the bad.
