its a party

"A wake?" Josie winced as if that was totally unheard of. "Her brother is having a wake for her?"

Josie squinted harder thinking this was totally ridiculous. She knew for a fact that Cedric would celebrate anything.

"Do you really think Sunny would approve? I mean? Did she even drink?" Josie looked at Ian as if she was ready to accuse him of starting the party.

"Hey, I'm just telling you, what I heard." He backed away and found a booth in the corner at the campus coffee shop. She served him some coffee and a big Morning Glory muffin. "We don't even have to go."

"Oh, we're going." She told him as she scooted in next to him. Most of the school would be there, at Cedric's farm house, along with a whole bunch of other people.

"Are you sure? Really?" He looked at her as if it were an accident waiting to happen. "What are you going to do? Take pictures of who ever gets shitfaced the most?" He festered a frown as if he didn't want to be a part of it. "I thought you said your Mom wanted to talk to you. Aren't you two going out to dinner?"

"Oh that?" She shrugged as if it were no big deal. This party at Cedric's would be epic.

"You haven't ever gone to Cedric's, have you?" Josie looked at him as if this was not truth or dare. Just truth.

"Not as long as I've been with you." He shrugged.

Josie winced. She wasn't sure she liked his answer.

"What do you mean?" She thought she knew ever little detail of Ian's life. The good and the bad.

"It was nothing." He shrugged and sipped on his black coffee. She kept staring at him as if that was not an answer.

"It was nothing." He stared back at her. "His parties can get wild. People think they're funny, but they are just drunk or high."

"So you'll take me?" She remained straight lipped, but it was sort of a pout.

"Well, if I don't. I'm sure you'll find someone who will. So yeah, if you have to go. I'll take you." He didn't look so happy about it.

She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. "We won't have to stay long. Just want to see what's so wonderful about Cedric's parties."
