in a snap

Jules was almost napping on an Art History book, but his cell rang and woke him up. It was his sister Hayley who was in a tizzy.

"I think its a threesome." Her voice tensed.

"What?" Jules winced hard, wishing Hayley wouldn't make everything sound like porn. It was like her to try to get a rise out of him. "What are you going on about?"

"She went behind our back, Jules." Hayley talked nonstop how his dad was in their mother's life, again. "She'll never get back together with my Dad now, with him around."

"Well.." Jules wanted to think, as he rubbed his eyelids, but he yawned instead. "Just have to let it work..its self out. Have a little faith in Mum. Remember, how you said it was over with Jonah when it definitely wasn't?"

A part of Jules wished he was there. Wished he knew what his mum was up to. He was usually the last to know. She was like that with boyfriends. And his Dad had been her boyfriend, a long time ago. It was just teenage love and ..and he'd like to tell her what a teenage dirt bag he was, but it would make her want him more. He was afraid.

"Don't you get it? She's just like you." Jules wasn't going to waste a breath on his Dad.

"Don't go saying things you don't mean." Hayley snapped.

"God, listen to yourself. Just listen." Now Jules was really awake. He knew this more about Archie, than anyone. "You wanted to help Archie. Mom wanted to help Archie. Family is a really big thing for both of you." He took a breath. "Just saying, its not a fairytale. Real life is messy. And mum knows messy." He bit his bottom lip. "I'm sorry it isn't working with Mum and your Dad." Hopefully, nothing was going to work with his Dad, either.

And to think he'd waited so long to see his Dad, but he was sure he'd be mad. Horribly mad. Maybe it best that he was far away.
