fessing up

Josie thought she digested it rather quickly. Thankfully, there was broccoli and cheddar soup in the crockpot. It was just the two of them. No, Duncan. She was certain he'd be here, but he'd left last minute. Some sort of meeting.

Actually, she'd figured some of it out, already. She knew her mother was pregnant for weeks now, but she didn't say anything. Perhaps, hoping it wasn't true.

Good old Joe, she thought. Now they were stuck with Derrick.

"I just don't know why you have to be so nice, Mom." She stared at her mother as if it was her biggest flaw. "Please tell me..you're not going to marry him."

"Not right now." But she kind of left it open.

"God, Mom. I just want everything to be normal, you know." She didn't mean to whine but how could things be normal with Derrick around?

"You probably won't even see each other." Her mother mentioned who was still tight lipped about her pregnancy. Josie guessed she would have done so, too.

"What about Duncan?" Josie asked as she didn't think this was her Mom's soup recipe, after all. The broccoli was too chunky. It had to have been cut up by a man.

"What about him? He's a good friend." She shrugged.

Josie nodded. She knew she wouldn't make her mother promise anything, but she was seriously thinking she couldn't go anywhere with Ian this summer.
