the last resort

Lena was in a slump. Maybe it happened before Eli left for his trip to Germany. He told her he wanted to see real castles.

She hadn't really talked to him since he told her he was her brother. She was so mad at him. She couldn't help it. Just when she thought she could embrace his quirky demeanor and silly little glitches, she found it so hard to let him be who he was supposed to be.

Now she regretted not coming around sooner. As it was, life was rather glum. Just her boring life on hold. She didn't even have a major yet. And here she thought she was the smart one, meeting every dumb guy out there.

It was an accident when she met Dorian at the coffee shop. She never went to the establishmen and didn't remember he worked there, but she was glad to see him.

Before she knew it, he'd brought her a free iced tea and they were talking about Eli nonstop.

"Then why aren't you two together?" She looked at him puzzled.

"I dunno." Dorian shrugged. She knew she'd upset him when she mentioned it. She hadn't meant too. "I miss him. I really do. Its just...I dunno..if I was ever..exactly his boyfriend."

Eli was definitely not the usual boyfriend nor brother.

"God, I used to think he was obsessed with me, you know." She smiled now, feeling better to have someone to talk to about Eli. "It was like, why do I always end up meeting all the weird ones." She looked Dorian over wondering how strange he must have thought this was now. Seeing each other, after all this time.

"Weird isn't always bad." Dorian assured her.

"Everyone in my dorm has gone home. I need to be moved out soon." She changed the subject.

"Where will you go? Are you taking the summer off?" Dorian wondered.

"I guess I'll go home." She told him, but her mom wasn't expecting her until next month.

"Maybe..." he bit his bottom lip. "You can stay with me. You know, until you decide."

Lena was shocked to hear his offer, but she felt close to Dorian. It was good to find a real friend.
