Letting it alone
Olivia was beginning to think Ruben wasn't all bad. They'd been over to his place for dinner. Ruben went with her to the Farmer's market once.
"He was kind of cool." Olivia shrugged as if they were possibly past this problem. She was getting used to him with Dorian, but apparently, Luc wasn't.
"I just don't get it." She shrugged as she was stir-frying vegetables for dinner. "What is your problem?"
"He's too pushy." Luc sighed as he rubbed Olivia's shoulder. His touch made her want to sleep. She felt so slow lately in the heat and humidity. Her lavender floral dress draped over the burgeoning baby bump now. She was barefooted because her feet were always so hot, as of late.
"Pushy?" She didn't see Ruben like that. He seemed kind of ditzy to her. Dorian was the serious one. Ruben was the one laughing and wanting to try new things to cook. Was it so bad that she liked him? And Dorian was happier now, too.
Luc kissed her on the neck. But she could see deep down, he was waiting for things to fall apart between Dorian and Ruben.
She wondered if any of her friends thought that way about her and Luc. She guessed not.
"Who would you, want to see Dorian with?" She looked over her shoulder at Luc who was looking in the fridge for the butter.
"I hadn't really thought about it." He shrugged.
"Anybody, but Ruben, evidently." Olivia went to stirring the sizzling stir-fry with a wooden spoon.
Luc didn't say anything.
"Look, I'm just saying. It could be someone worse. A lot worse." Olivia shrugged. Then she thought of Ryan, hoping where ever she was..she was OK. A part of Olivia felt she must have been the worst friend ever to Ryan. Yet Ryan wasn't good with everyday people, either. Sometimes, you could only do so much. She looked a Luc, hoping he was leaving well enough alone with Ruben and Dorian.
